Chamber music is often associated with intimacy - not only because it is performed by a small ensemble, but above all because it requires a particular kind of listening. In the quartet, each voice remains exposed, deprived of the opportunity to hide in the mass of orchestral sound. It is an art of dialogue, mutual attention and a constant balancing act between individuality and community.
The juxtaposition of classical piano quartets by Mozart and romantic piano quartets by Mendelssohn allows us to trace two different ways of understanding this musical conversation. In the Ciechanowiec palace, these works will be performed by musicians of the Fortepiano Atelier Ensemble - an ensemble that pays special attention to historical performance sensitivity and subtlety of sound. As a result, the music of the two eras will be encountered here not as museum repertoire, but as living testimony to emotions, tensions and questions that do not lose their relevance.
